"When I needed encouragement, You gave me a pep talk. When I needed help, You rolled up your sleeves. When I wanted to talk, You listened. When I needed a hug, You opened your arms. When I had to vent, You lent me your ears. When I needed a nudge, You gave me an elbow. When I required correction, You did it ever so gently. When all I could do was cry, You stayed right beside me. And when I needed to pray, You opened your heart." -Melody Carlson
This took me about two weeks to complete, spending about two to six hours every other day. Things like the eyes, nose, and his mouth took me about four hours, but what was the most time consuming (and likely to drive me insane) was Yeshua's full beard and long hair. But, if I had to choose between which was the worst, the beard wins it hands down.
If you're wondering, Yeshua is the Hebrew version of Jesus's name. Figured I'd give ya'll a heads up if you didn't know already.
I wasn't able to use a camera, so I did what I could with my scanner and an online image editor I found. Think of it as online Photoshop.
This picture took me to places in my heart that I had walled up. It forced me to look in those dark corners and really decide if I wanted to keep living like I was. It wasn't that the picture was hard, just that the subject matter is of something that is quite personal in nature. My only regret is that I couldn't render Him more realistically than my pitiful attempt at it.
It makes me think of something my aunt told me. "You know, artists must hold some of God's creative spark. We are trying to create on paper, wood, and paint what He has given us license to do. Maybe that's why we're all just a little "wierd" by society's standards."
OMG you're so right, it DOES look like Charlie! You should send him a copy of it, but it's seriously very good, you did a fantastic job and I love your aunt's quote, because that's how I feel too

Feel free! I'm sure she'll love it. I know my mum did. Though when she tried to stick it to the fridge, I do think I snarled a bit and stuck it in a picture frame, lol!

*snickers* What's sad is that I thought of Charlie quite a bit when I was working on this. Maybe that's why it looks so much like him, LMAO!!
And I think my aunt hit it right on the head. She's an artist herself
Oh, and guess what.. You're my next portrait. Remember those snow day pictures you took and I took one of you at my grandma's house? *gets big Joker grin*
MWAHHAAHAAAHAAAAAAHAAAA!!!!!!!! *cough*

OH GOOD LORD NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *plots to go and steal those pictures away* YOU AREN'T GOING TO DRAW ME!!! *hides* ... and maybe it's like you said, portraits tend to have some of the artist or whoever they're thinking of at that time. It just depends on the situation and the subject matter.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Discussing page views, activity and popularity, ~ChaoticSkye explores the inner workings of the community on deviantART from her point of view.
Although this does not apply to everyone, we hope the article is a worthwhile read and that the majority perceive things from a different point of view from reading this.
